Three Chinese miniature wood carvings showing scenes of daily life in old China, a coolie or an artisan, two men with wheelbarrow and a street gambler. Made in the Tushanwan Workshop in Xujiahui, an orphanage opened 1864 by French Jesuit priests near Shanghai. Hosting an art school, producing wood-carving, stone sculpture, silversmith, embroidery and painting. Please refer to the book (last photo) "Scènes de la vie en Chine. Les figurines de bois de T'ou Sè Wè" by Christian Henriot and Ivan Macaux in French and Chinese ISBN 9782849903735. Book not included. Condition: bases with residue of former mounting.
