ATTRIBUTED TO THE ROSE PAINTER

CIRCA 340-320 B.C.

Beautiful bottle from Gnathia attributed to the Rose Painter. Done in the classic Gnathia style with large bands of ivy garlands, dotted ovolo, filled dots and rays. Painted in red,white and yellow highlights.

The central figure shows imagery of a swan, an iconographic identifier of Aphrodite. Measures 6 1/4 inches in height.

Ancient Nazca figure from circa 400-600 AD. It is of solid construction, wrapped in a white painted blanket having a reddish brown abstract decoration. The figure is depicted with a large angular nose and white painted eyes. Has a few light scattered surface deposits and very minor paint wear on left edge. Here you find a lovely daunian kyathos with high strap handle. Deep rich colour still present on this piece which is a treat to see as most fade due to the nature of the pigment.
