Here you find a lovely ancient ceramic lekythos from Greece. It has a tall slender body sitting on a pedestal foot, with sharp angled shoulder with painted ray pattern on a thin neck. The rim is flared with a small handle but all intact. The red-figure painted scene is of an athlete holding a strigil for cleaning and in front the athlete is a bench with two aryballi (oil containing vessel). Minor surface flakes and imperfections, mostly on the reverse. Dates to the 5th century BC. Measures 7.7 inches.
Provenance: American collection from the 1970's
