Toshiaki Shibuta is a multi award-winning potter from Bizen, Japan's oldest pottery center, which is known for its firing techniques and lack of glazing. Shibuta makes use of many of the traditional techniques from the area, yet, a closer look reveals the originality of his work in his innovative shaping of clay, firing, and surface treatments.
Textured with a bamboo utensil and pebbles, this small vase also boasts an array of colors due to the variety of woods added to the kiln during firing, including cedar, pine, and Japanese cypress. A triangular shaped mouth perfects the piece.
