Hideyuki Ichino's name is synonymous with Tamba, one of the six ancient kilns of Japan. With 800 years in history, Tamba ware was traditionally used for storage jars, yet modern artists such as Ichino are taking this ancient art form to new places. Ichinos' creations vary from traditional, earthy pieces, to his more modern works, which look to the future with their bold shapes and contemporary designs.
This fluted vase with natural red pine ash glazing represents the old Tamba aesthetic, one of Japan’s “Six Ancient Kilns.” The effects created during firing can been seen in its markings of various colors.
