Amida Nyorai, the Buddha of the Western Paradise, seated upon a lotus-form dais with hands placed centrally on the lap in the Amida jo-in concentration mudra. Sculpted from Japanese cypress with yosegi-zukuri joined-block construction, the eyes of inset crystal and the entirety finished in lacquer and gold leaf, the overarching funagata-style mandorla and multi-tiered plinth forming an original ensemble with the Buddha figure. Early- to mid-Edo Period ca. 1700.
