Amida Nyorai, the hands forming the raigo-in mudra welcoming the souls of the departed faithful to the Western Paradise, sculpted from Japanese cypress using yosegi-zukuri joined-block construction, the eyes of inset crystal, finished in lacquer and gilt, standing upon a multi-tiered gilt-wood plinth of more recent manufacture. Nanbokucho~early-Muromachi Period ca. 1400. Old repairs, expertly rendered and unobtrusive, with desirable patination overall.

Overall height: 64 cm
Height of Amida figure only: 54 cm

A redoubtable piece in all respects.
