Seated Amida Buddha, the hands placed centrally on the lap in the Amida jo-in meditation mudra. Yosegi-zukuri joined-block wooden construction, the eyes of inset crystal, finished in lacquer and gilt. Early-Edo Period ca. 1650. Very good condition overall, with only minor old wood loss and inter-block cracking as well as desirable rubbing and patination to the lacquer-and-gilt finish.

Height, including lotus-form dais: 32 cm
Height of figure only: 21 cm
Width: 17.5 cm
Depth: 14.5 cm

Masterful sculpting, a classically beautiful face, and remarkably good condition despite significant age make this a highly desirable Amida Buddha, to be sure.
