Definitely not for shy violets, this stunner rises fully half an inch above the finger and is hefty with high-quality gold and a 6.5 mm real cultured sea pearl, not the freshwater rubbish. Classy and classic, it has a cross-over setting that's graceful without being girlish, largely due to the sophisticated mount that lifts the pearl so high above the swirl. Talk about a Power Jewel! Hallmarked 14k, it's currently a US size 5.75 - 6.25. (We state ring sizes as a range, because different types of sizing equipment yield results that vary up to half a size, as do our fingers with temperature and time of day.) It could easily be made larger or smaller, since the shank isn't ornamented.
To be candid, I'm uncertain about dating this gorgeous jewel. It could conceivably be an innovative Arts and Crafts piece, decades older than mid-20th century Modernist. In fact, cross-over settings are normally associated with Edwardian times -- and let's remember the Armory Show, featuring abstract art we still consider modern, took place in 1913. The ring's superb condition persuades me to opt for Eames era, making it vintage rather than antique. Provenance is a Deep South estate.
