Young Flute Player is the title of an oil painting by Benedetto Luti from the 1720’s, now in the Hermitage. An earlier version by Luti depicted a young boy in a blue jacket without any instrument. This engraving, made by Victor Marie Picot was published in London in 1780 as Boy and Lute, obviously mixing up the motif and the artist (!). Contributing to this is probably the Walpole family crest having been pushed in between the letters of the title...

In 1879 John Everett Millais produced Cherry Ripe, the oil painting of a little girl sitting on a tree trunk, next to her a large green leaf topped with red cherries. Cherry Ripe became extremely popular, and so was reproduced in various graphic media of the time. Millais’s painting was also used in the advertising campaigns of the Pears Soap company. After a painting by Joseph (Claude-Joseph) Vernet (1714 – 1789), number 303 from a series of engravings after the works of famous artists edited in the 1760’s by Johann Georg Hertel in Augsburg. Nice frame in green and gilt. Image size "8 ¾ / 22.5 cm x "6 ½ / 16.5 cm, frame "14 / 35 cm x "11 ½ / 29 cm. Condition: the edge of the paper with some minor spots.

Charles Baudelaire de face, etched portrait by Edouard Manet. The French poet was photographed by Félix Nadar in 1862 and the photo was the starting-point for Manet’s portrait. More than one version exists of the etching and this is number III. Signed in the plate Peint et Gravé par Manet 1865, and Imp. A. Salmon (printer´s name). On creme coloured wove paper, size of plate "3 ½ / 9.4 cm x "3 ¼ / 8.2 cm. The partly silvered frame measuring "7 / 18 cm x "7 / 18 cm. Condition: fine.
