A French Montereau plate, transfer printed in black with a view of the harbour in St Valéry. One of a suite of at least ten plates with views from various French towns. Impressed, rounded Montereau mark, for the Lebeuf period (1833-1840). Diameter 8"/ 20,5 cm. Condition: glaze wear, a hairline and small nick to the rim (cf. pics).

Plate, transfer printed in manganese with a scene depicting the death in 1813 of Prince Poniatowski, of Polish origin and one of Napoleon’s marshals died in battle, drowned in the river Elster in Germany. Unmarked, but probably made by the French manufacturer Creil in the 1810’s. Text: “Le Prince Poniastowski (sic!) Retiré de L’elster.” Diameter "8½/ 22,5 cm. Condition: a chip to the rim (cf. pics).

Interesting French plate, transfer printed in black with a scene from the Bouffes Parisiens playhouse. The motif copies a drawing by Ch. Hamlet for the Charivari or some other satirical journal. The back of the plate reveals the name of the play: La Quenouille de Verre (the glass distaff) and some lines apparently well known to the Parisian audience of the 1870's. Two superbly enamelled coffee cans, both decorated with a water landscape and a fisherman, one with a ruined castle, the other with a cottage and a bridge. C 1800, probably Belgian (Vieux Bruxelles). Height: 2 ½”/6,5 cm. Saucers, contemporary but not belonging, provided without extra cost (cf. the last photo). Condition: both handles have been professionally mended.
