Lidded beaker vase or jar by Alexandre Kostanda (1921 – 2007). Stoneware, the exterior thinly glazed in grey with a discreet “lava” effect of burst bubbles. Smoothly glazed interior. Kostanda was one of the most renowned ceramists in Vallauris, the preferred place to be for art potters in post-war France, including Picasso who used the studio of the Madoura family there.
