Three plates and two small dishes by Aegitna in Vallauris, France. Aegitna or Saltamacchia was one of the first ceramic workshop established in the village of Vallauris near Cannes and the Mediterranean. Postwar Vallauris was to become the most famous center in Europe for the renewal of ceramic art, and many modernist ceramic artists - Picasso for one - settled there to work. The glaze of these five pieces is glossy, almost watery, and the design of pine cones and twigs is very typical of the Aegitna studio. Diameter "6 ¾ / 17.5 and "3 ¼ / 8.5 cm. Condition: glaze loss to the twig ends (cf. pics).
