Wedgwood blue jasper ware bead pendant. Jasper ware, invented and introduced by Josiah W in the late 18th century, was a success in the neoclassical period around 1800.The extremely finely moulded white ornaments are fixed to unglazed blue stoneware to create a carved cameo effect. The bead is Georgian, from the last years of the 18th century, whereas the silver gilt chain is later, c 1900. It is stamped Sterling and has a Swedish import mark (three crowns in an oval and an S). Diameter of the bead is "1/2 / 1.5 cm, length of chain "17 ½ / 44 cm. Condition: fine. A necklace entirely made up of similar beads is in the V&A collection.
