Blowpipes have been used for hunting in some parts of the world, and in Western Flanders blowpipe with darts or arrows was a popular sport for about a hundred years, starting at the beginning of the 19th century. This unusual plate was made for a local Flemish blowpipe association around 1840-1850. The center of the plate shows two crossed blowpipes and three arrows and a Dutch / Flemish inscription Maatschappij (Association) Blaazersgilde (Blowers Guild) Oostende. Probably made at one of the manufactories in Brussels, thus belonging to what is now called Vieux Bruxelles porcelain. Diameter "9 ¾ / 24.5 cm. Condition: fine.
