Cast pewter and gilt pendant with a squirrel, by Volmer Bahner, c 1940, made to look like bronze. VB (1912 – 1995) was a Danish designer who in his jewels usually worked with enamel and silver. However, during WWII silver and even bronze was sometimes hard to find and cheaper material such as pewter was used as a substitute. Nature was Bahner's source of inspiration and stylized flowers, leaves and animals are often seen in his jewelry. Signed Volmer Bahner. Width "1 ½ / 3.7 cm. Condition: wear to the gilt.
