Faience pitcher by Aegitna in Vallauris, France. Aegitna or Saltamacchia was one of the first ceramic workshops established in the village of Vallauris near Cannes and the Mediterranean. Vallauris was to become the most famous center in postwar Europe for the renewal of ceramic art, and many modernist ceramists like Picasso settled there to work. This small wine pitcher is covered by a glossy, almost watery glaze and the design of pine needles and cones is typical of the early work of the Aegitna studio. Diameter "6 ¾ / 17.5 cm. Condition: some roughness around the spout (cf. pics).
