This is a beautifully decorated Meiji Era Shibayama jar. The silver body has two panels with birds an eagle, birds among flowers and ikebana displays, The neck, foot, and sides are adorned with dazzling enameled floral decorations. The handles are shaped and enameled as iris. The Jar Stands 6/3/4 inches tall and it is 5 inches across at the handles. Signed on a gold tablet the underside Toshitsugu This is a fabulous and rare example of Shibayama. It is even a better example than some in the Khalili collection. The condition is excellent but not perfect. I found a very slight indentation at one of the shoulders.
