Wonderful portrait miniature of a group of seven children, six young girls and a baby, by Swiss artist Henri Louis Convert (1789-1863). Their hairstyles are each different, from braided pigtails to braids looped over the ears, to braids shaped at the back. Delightful portrait miniature in watercolor on ivory of a young girl, by French artist Marie-Marguerite Françoise Jaser (1782-1873), later Rouchier. The sitter is identified as “Henriette le Brun, née Drolenvaux, grandetante (great aunt) de Nancy et Paul Duchat.” The girl wears a simple white dress – it is her pose, the tilt of her head, the wistful expression so skillfully drawn, that make this portrait so compelling. It is signed along the right edge “Mte. Jaser”. Jaser (her mar...
