Georgian gold memorial swivel ring, featuring plaited brunette hair on one side and an intaglio crest on the other, flanked by an amethyst on each side. The crest is comprised of the figure of a dragon (or possibly a hound!) over a shield over a banner bearing the motto “sed labe sine decus” or “honor without a stain”. The motto appears to belong to the Earl of Eldon of the Scott family, but their armorial figures are lions, so more research is need to track the original owners down! Very good condition; wax residue and some chipping to intaglio; dirt under the glass of the hair panel. Ring size 9.
