Hairpin from the "Miao" peoples of southern China. Miao is the term the Chinese use to describe the four main ethnic minorities (Hmong, Hmu, Qo Xiong, and A-Hmao) who traditionally dwell in the mountains of southern China and areas of South-East Asia. The Miao are renowned for their silver jewelry, and today their modern products are widely available on the internet. Older pieces such as this are much scarcer due to Chinese export laws. This is an unusually ornate example with much silver wire work and the cast dragon head.
