A Very Fine/Rare Pair of Papier Marche Wedding Ducks:
Korea, Joseon dynasty, 19th Century,
This pair of male and female weddding ducks created with details of the wings’ feathers realistically,these ducks formed in wood, covered many layers with Korean traditional paper from the wood (the paper mulberry) and then oiled on it. This pairs were made for wedding ceremony in Choson (Yi) dynasty (19th century). It could be made only skilled crafted shipman.
The Korean wedding ducks are one of symbols of Korean folk sculptures, it’s warm and compelling in this derectness and naivete, they’re in an old aging patina over the ducks’ surfaces.
It is in fine condition as paper wedding ducks but have some short tears
and cracks to the affects of aging.
It measures 38cm x 20.3cm h. (15” x 8 1/8”) and 33.5cm x19.5cm h. (13 1/8” x 7 5/8”)
