A Very Rare and Fine Korean Old Silla Musical Libation Cup-6th C.: Korea, Three King Domes Periods (Silla period), 5th-6thcentury, This is a so called a “Jingle bell” musical cup-vessel. It probably could have been used for a ritual ceremony in Silla or Kaya periods, it’s a very rare Jingle cup with an incised pierced high ring foot, cut and opened high footed stem like a pedestal bowl with natural ash and lead glaze on the body, the tall ribbed flaring sides supported on a perforated base with three (3) clay pellets inside to produce sound. Pottery vessels with fanciful shapes like this attest to the skill and confidence of Silla potters, complex and thin-walled forms such as this were borrowed from metal work and were difficult to render in clay. It’s in very fine condition without any damages. Measures 5 1/16” x 3 1/4” (12.7cm x 8.3cm) Reference: A very identical libation cup see, Korean Art, The Brooklyn Museum, by Robert J, Moes, 1987, #6
