An Extremely Rare Solid Gold Buddhist Sutra:
Korea, Koryo Period, 11th -13th Century,
It is extremely rare solid gold leaf sutra of "Vajraccedika, prajnaparamita" , "Ma Ha Ban Ya Pa Ra Mil Da Sim Kyung", from late Unified Silla to Koryo period: The Buddhist text of
the prajnaparamita¡± sutra (sutra on the perfection of wisdom) was written
in repousse on leave of thin gold sheet in Chinese regular script (Kai-Shu).
This sutra has two °Apsarases (Heavenly Maidens" in repousse on the body along
with a trinity figure seated on a lotus throne with robes flapping as if descending from
heaven. It is in good condition with an old gold patina related with a long period of age (800-1,000 years old)except wrinkles on gold sheet.
It measures 9 1/2" x 3 1//4"(3 1/8") or 24cm x 8.3cm( 8cm).
