Sakiori kotatsu-kake ( cover ) woven of cotton strips for wefts which are recycled from old kimono, futon cover, furoshiki ( wrapping cloth ) and so on. Warps are asa ( hemp ) threads. Kotatsu is a heater made of wooden frame where charcoals or a briquette of coal are put and covered with a futon ( cover ). The lining is cotton stripe and has a bit of yellowish parts. In good condition but has a cotton kasuri mending patch, some wear and wefts loose parts. 20th century. 168cm x 164cm

Pilgrim's hanten made of gray cotton with Sanscrit letters which are the symbols of the Buddhas. And also "Omine-san" in kanji letters which is located in Nara prefecture. It has been the hallow mountain and the center of the ascetic training, called shugen-do. This hanten has printed images of "En-no-gyosha, a founder of the shugen-do and "Fudo" in the back. Amazing boro futonji with mending patches which are kasuri, katazome (stencil-resist-dye), stripes and so on. Some fragments are hand-spun cotton and some are not. This is a jishiro ( white ground ) katazome ( stencil-dyeing ) which is made of hand-spun and hand-woven cotton. It is dyed with natural indigo. The diagonal lines look like shibori technique, however it is katazome and small pattern in the sleeves is also katazome.
