Oribe-yaki choshi, a container for sake. Oribe-yaki was originally made in Mino in Gifu prefecture. It was first made by Furuta Oribe, a tea master and an apprentice of Senno Rikyu in late 16th century. This choshi has hand-painted chidori and green glaze. In excellent condition with a wood box. Kaji-zukin (fireman's hood) made of vegetable indigo dye cotton with hand-stitched sashiko. Sashiko thread is also indigo dyed cotton. The feature of this zukin is the crest in the front head which is hand-embroidered "Tsuta" character. Water was poured over head before a fireman entered a fire site. Late 19th to early 20th century. This is a dochu-gi ( coat ) made of kudzu-fu ( gross cloth ) which is hand woven of kudzu fibers for wefts and cotton threads for warps. Kudzu-fu was mostly produced in Kakegawa in Shizuoka prefecture in late Edo. Dochu-gi is a coat for outdoor or travel and kudzu-fu one was worn in summer. This dochugi is black and dyed with Japanese ink. In good condition except for a moth holes in the black wool collar and some in the body part.
