Boy's ceremonial kimono made of cotton. It has kata Yuzen-zome "carp and stream" design which is a symbol of strength and success. Kata-yuzenzome is the technique using katagami (stencil) and hand-coloring. It has thin fossil silk lining so that probably from Tohoku or Japan Sea side area. Furoshiki (wrapping cloth) made of hand-spun cotton. It has tsutsugaki auspicious motifs such as cranes and Meoto-iwa which is a scenery of two rocks in the sea, a large one and small one. Meoto means a husband and a wife and Meoto-iwa are seen in many places in Japan. It is a symbol of worship for nature and good harmonious marriage. The tsutsugaki dye is much faded and has some holes and stains. The second half of the 19th century. 66cm x 73cm

Kaji-zukin (fireman's hood) made of vegetable indigo dye cotton with hand-stitched sashiko. Sashiko thread is also indigo dyed cotton. The feature of this zukin is the crest in the front head which is hand-embroidered "Tsuta" character. Water was poured over head before a fireman entered a fire site. Late 19th to early 20th century. Rare item. Hand-painted sample pictures of Meibutsugire which is imported fabrics from China, India, Persia, South East Asia etc. between early 12th and early 18th century. They were mainly silk brocades and silk damask which were used for scroll mountings, fukusa and bags for tea utensils. Meibutsugire literally means named fabrics. Kaji-zukin (fireman's hood) made of vegetable indigo dye cotton with hand-stitched sashiko. Sashiko threads is also indigo dyed cotton. Judging from the logo in the front panel, hiragana "To" shows it belongs to the "To" brigade of the number 10-kumi (group 10). Edo hikeshi had "I-Ro-Ha 47 groups.
