This is a pair of kusari-gote (gauntlet) which are made of urushi coated iron, kusari (mail), plain and katazome asa (hemp) cloth, silk cords, buttons made of animal bone etc. The warps and wefts of the asa cloth are hand-plied. Generally in good condition but has some holes in the asa cloth and urushi came off in the back of the hands as they were actually used. It reads "27" in Kanji letters in the top. Edo period. 19.5cm x 68.5cm

This is a set of suo and hakama which are worn on a stage (kyogen). Suo (top) is a wide-sleeved overgarment which was worn by samurai. They are made of hemp and both warps and wefts are hand-plied. This is a han-bakama worn at the Kyogen which is the comical play performed together with the no drama but it is sometimes performed alone. This is a yogi, a kind of futon shape of kimono. The outside cloth is asa (hemp) and the lining is cotton katazome ( stencil-dye ) and asa cloth. All the cloth are hand-woven and vegetable dyed. It is stuffed with "okuso" which is hemp wastes produced in making of hemp threads. In cold regions such as Tohoku, cotton was very precious as it could not grow so that "okuso" was stuffed instead of cotton. It is very heavy. In good condition except for a few small holes and some mending patches...

These are two wooden miniature Fudos ( Cetaka ) who is the incarnate of Dainichi Nyorai, the highest ranking Buddha. It is said that he can change evil minds of demons and make them good. He has an expression of rage, holding a sword in the right hand, the kensaku ( originally a trap for birds or small animals ) in the left hand ( Both are lost of these Fudos ). This is a fragment of kosode with embroideries. Kosode is a woman's kimono till Edo period, a predecessor of a modern kimono. Kosode literally means "small sleeve" but it actually means sleeves with small wrists opening, on the other hand, sleeves with wide openings are called hirosode. This is a katsugi or kazuki which was worn by a noble woman before Edo period ( before the beginning of the 17th century ). It was also worn by a commoner woman later overhead as well as over kimono when she went out. It is made of hand-woven thin plain weave silk and has beautiful Yuzen-zome ( dye ) paintings of chickens, chicks and plants.
