This is a set of suo and hakama which are worn on a stage (kyogen). Suo is a wide-sleeved overgarment worn by samurai. They are made of hemp and warps are hand-plied. They have katazome ( stencil-dyeing ) Mukai-zuru ( a pair of cranes face-to-face ) pattern. 19th century. In good condition but has many moth holes in the suō and hakama. This is a han-bakama worn at the Kyogen which is the comical play performed together with the no drama but it is sometimes performed alone. This han-bakama is made of asa ( hemp ) with various round crests which is called "Kyogen-mon" and mostly they symbolize treasures. This is a han-juban ( short under kimono ) made of hand-spun cotton and has itajime ( board-clamped ) pattern. Itajime shibori had been practiced in Kyoto from late Edo period ( the former half of the 19th century ) to early Showa period ( 1920s ), so it is called Kyo-Itajime. However, it has mostly diminished these days. This han-juban has a cotton lining and floss silk for warmth. The both sleeves are made of silk crepe. In good condition except for the dirt in the white cotton collar...

This is a yogi, a kind of futon shape of kimono. The outside cloth is asa (hemp) and the lining is cotton katazome ( stencil-dye ) and asa cloth. All the cloth are hand-woven and vegetable dyed. It is stuffed with "okuso" which is hemp wastes produced in making of hemp threads. In cold regions such as Tohoku, cotton was very precious as it could not grow so that "okuso" was stuffed instead of cotton. It is very heavy. In good condition except for a few small holes and some mending patches...

This is a juban ( under kimono ) made of a few kinds of silk, one is pongee silk with beni itajime shibori ( board-clamped dyeing with safflower ). The silk crepe and the pongee silk with katazome are used for the collar and the hem. In good condition except for the moth bites in the hem which has thick cotton lining. The both sleeves are lost. These are two wooden miniature Fudos ( Cetaka ) who is the incarnate of Dainichi Nyorai, the highest ranking Buddha. It is said that he can change evil minds of demons and make them good. He has an expression of rage, holding a sword in the right hand, the kensaku ( originally a trap for birds or small animals ) in the left hand ( Both are lost of these Fudos ).
