Woman's kimono with "Kogin-sashi" which is embroidery with white cotton thread on indigo dyed hemp. It was made in "Tsugaru" region, now the west part of Aomori prefecture in Tohoku district. This is a han-bakama worn at the Kyogen which is the comical play performed together with the no drama but it is sometimes performed alone. This han-bakama is made of asa ( hemp ) with various round crests which is called "Kyogen-mon" and mostly they symbolize treasures. Cotton Kurume kasuri futonji with a ship motif. Kurume in Fukuoka Pref. in Kyushu has been one of the main product places of indigo dyed cotton kasuri since late Edo period (early 19th century). It is made of hand-spun cotton that means probably it was made before Meiji 15 (1882) and natural indigo dyed. Pilgrim's sodenashi made of hand-spun cotton with writhings which are the name of the pilgrim, the year (Meiji 5, 1871) etc. The places of pilgrimage is Saigoku Sanju-Sansho (33 holy places in the west) which are for worship of Kannon and the oldest places of pilgrimage. Woman's katsugi or kazuki (head veil) made of thin plain weave silk with beautiful katazome (stencil-resist-dye) whose pattern is traditional "Matsukawa-bishi" with round pattern of Onaga-dori (one kind of rooster). Katsugi was worn by a woman when she went out. The neck part is lowered in front for easier wearing on the head. Katsugi with this zigzag pattern is called "Gosho katsugi", worn by a court noble woman. In good condition but has one rip in the top head part (5mm) and some tiny holes...

Two fragments of Edo kosode kimono. The right one has motifs of waves and shrimps, the latter is a symbbl of longevity. The line in the shrimps are drawn by "itome-nori" which is very fine line with paste-resist-dye. The ground cloth is plain weave silk. The left one has also auspicious pine tree design on silk crepe.
