Wa-sarasa futonji made of cotton and dyed with pigments. Wa-sarasa is Japanese calico which is first made in Edo period immitating calico from abroad and stencil-resit dye or woodblock print. The product places were Nabeshima (Saga Pref. in Kyushu), Sakai (Osaka), Nagasaki (Kyushu) etc, however it is not clear where this futonji was made. In excellent condition. This is a piece of Narumi-kongata cloth which is hand-spun and natural indigo-dyed. Narumo-kongata cloth imitates the shibori ( tie-dyeing ) which has been made mainly in Arimatsu-Narumi region in Aichi prefecture. Kaji-zukin (fireman's hood) made of vegetable indigo dye cotton with hand-stitched sashiko. Sashiko threads is also indigo dyed cotton. Judging from the logo in the front panel, hiragana "To" shows it belongs to the "To" brigade of the number 10-kumi (group 10). Edo hikeshi had "I-Ro-Ha 47 groups. Water is poured over hood, hanten, gloves and so on before a fireman entered fire site. The second half of the 19th century. In excellent condition. Width when folded:42cm, Length:56cm
