Futonji with kasuri pattern which are: bamboo, pine tree, sparrow etc. motifs. It is made of hand-spun cotton and dyed with vegetable indigo. Probably made in Kurume. It is located in Fukuoka Pref. in Kyushu and has been one of the main product places of indigo dyed cotton kasuri since late Edo period (early 19th century). In excellent condition. Han-gappa (or dochu-gi) made of kudzu fiber for wefts and cotton for warps, all vegetable indigo dyed. The collar is made of imported wool. The fasteners made of spiral cord show it was made in Tenpo in late Edo period (1831~1845) according to the "Kinsei Fuzoku-shi" written by Kitagawa Morisada beginning from 1837 to 1867. Slits with piping are for swords. Kudzu kimono was mainly made in Kakegawa region in Shizuoka prefecture...

Woman's katsugi or kazuki (head veil) made of thin plain weave silk with beautiful katazome (stencil-resist-dye) whose pattern is traditional "Matsukawa-bishi" with round pattern of Onaga-dori (one kind of rooster). Katsugi was worn by a woman when she went out. The neck part is lowered in front for easier wearing on the head. Katsugi with this zigzag pattern is called "Gosho katsugi", worn by a court noble woman. In good condition but has one rip in the top head part (5mm) and some tiny holes...
