Miniature Buddhist altar for an ordinary family. It has a large one and a small one inside, both are made of wood and painted with black urushi. The buddha and the base is made of wood and painted in gold but the halo (kohai) is made of metal. It has handwriting in the bottom, "Kaei Gan-nen (1848)", very late Edo period. In good condition but has some chips. Large alter: 24cm x 13cm x 41cm, Small: 9cm x 6.5cm x 19.5cm

This is a byobu ( folding screen ) with ink-painted motifs of many kinds of town vendors such as tea, dumplings, butterflies, Japanese wine, umbrellas, lanterns, drums, candies and so on. It has 18 paintings pasted on the paper ground. It has minor rips or damages, however in good condition as a whole. 19th century or early 20th century.
