The outside is coated with black urushi and inside is coated with red urushi. Generally in good condition except for tiny chips and urushi came off in the bottom. Late 19th to early 20th century. These are a pair of "choshi" for sake ( Japanese wine ) which are made of wood and coated with urushi. It has beautiful contrast of three urushi colors, red, black and natural wood. Choshi is a container for liquid, which has a handle and a beak.
