This is a piece of Narumi-kongata cloth which is hand-spun and natural indigo-dyed. Narumo-kongata cloth imitates the shibori ( tie-dyeing ) which has been made mainly in Arimatsu-Narumi region in Aichi prefecture. The white ground ( jishiro ) piece is less common than indigo blue ground one. The elaborate plural katagami ( paper stencils ) are used for this cloth and has exactly same pattern on both sides which requires prominent craftsmanship. The motifs are sparrow and bamboo...

This is a bag made of hand-spun cotton and has katazome pattern. This bag came from the same family as #1047657 Rokushaku-kanban, so it has the same pattern. It is dyed with bengara ( iron oxide ), one kind of pigments. The usage is not clear, but it was vertically folded into 6 layers, so possibly used as a pad put on a palanquin bearer's shoulder. This is a hagi han-juban which is made of several kinds of silk crepe. Hagi means "sewing together". The body part is made of silk crepe with two kinds of itajime patterns and dyed with benibana ( safflower ). The both sleeves are also made of silk crepe with two kinds of katazome ( stencil-dye ) patterns and dyed with indigo. It has thin wool muslin lining. The lining has some moth holes. This is a scroll made of fukusa ( gift cover ) which is hand-woven tsuzure-ori ( tapestry weave ) silk cloth. Fukusa was used to cover a gift in old days.
