Two cotton bags for matchlock guns as they have hand written "5 monme 5 bu" inside that shows the size of the gun. They also have the owner's name inside. One is mde of thick twill weave and indigo dyed cotton and the lining is hand-spun cotton. The other is made of dark green hand-spun cotton and komon katazome asa inside whose warps as well as wefts are hand-plied. The top dark green one has a few small holes and wear in the lining...

Cotton Yamato kasuri cloth produced in Yamato region in Nara prefecture. The warps and wefts are machine-spun but the cloth is hand-woven. It used to be the man's kimono, unseamed and washed (toki-mono). Late 19th to early 20th century. 2 pieces of the body: 33cm x 3m10cm 2pieces of the sleeves: 33cm x 104cm In excellent condition but has some light beige parts and the long cloth has 9cm cut in the middle (neck part).

Asa (choma, ramie) woman's han-juban, a short under kimono. It is probably Echigo-jofu made in Niigata prefecture, which is hand-woven of choma, ramie and both the wefts and warps are hand-plied. Two tsuno-bukuro which were used for the grain. They are made of asa (hemp) and whose selvedges are diagonally sewn together so that the bag is a bit stretchable. The warps as well as wefts are hand-plied. It has the owner's name and the place in Shiga prefecture. It has some mending stitches with white cotton threads and some stains. Cotton girl's juban (under kimono) for furisode (formal kimono) with katazome pattern. It is called beni-itajime which is one kind of board-clamped dyeing with benibana (safflower). Benibana was very precious in old days and it was mainly grown in Shonai region in Yamagata prefecture. The last photo shows the process of beni-itajime in old days (Reference source: Yomigaeru Maboroshino Senshoku, published by Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo). Meiji period (1868~1912)...
