This is a noragi ( farm wear ) made of cotton cloth with shibori and cotton jacquard. The beautiful shibori cloth was produced in Asamai region in Akita prefecture in Tohoku district. Asamai region has been one of the producing places of shibori cloth since mid 19th century. Design book of Japanese traditional patterns which are originally designed by Katsushika Hokusai (1760?~1849), a notable and prominent Ukiyo-e-shi. The title is "Shin-gata Kommon-cho", a new komon design book. It has a pair of two designs, which are woodblock print, black line in one page and colored in the other and each has a name. 74 patterns in a ciecle. In excellent condition. Cotton shibori (tie-dye) cloth for one kimono. It is rare as it is in the original paper wrapping when it was sold. It is written "Arimatsu Shibori" and produced by Owari Arimatsu "Takeda Kahei" which was established in Keicho 13 in Edo (1608) and the company's name changed to "Takeda Kahei Shoten" in Meiji 5 (1873). It is written "1 jo" which is for one kimono and about 12m. In good condition but might have some beige color on the selvedges from aging, however it can be cleaned by washing...

A pair of "Ashimoto andon (foot lantern)" made of wood, bamboo and washi (Japanese handmade paper). The wood frame is painted with "Tame-nuri" which is one of techniques of urushi. Clear urushi is painted on red urushi. The paper is replaced from shoji-gami (white paper for a screen) to recycled washi which was a record book of a merchant in late Edo period. Washi is made from paper mulberry bark and very strong. With carton boxes. 20th century. In excellent condition...
