A pair of "Ashimoto andon (foot lantern)" made of wood, bamboo and washi (Japanese handmade paper). The wood frame is painted with "Tame-nuri" which is one of techniques of urushi. Clear urushi is painted on red urushi. The paper is replaced from shoji-gami (white paper for a screen) to recycled washi which was a record book of a merchant in late Edo period. Washi is made from paper mulberry bark and very strong. With carton boxes. 20th century. In excellent condition...

A pair of wooden lacquer plates with hand-painted Daruma (Bodhidharma) who is the founder of the Zen, a sect of Buddhism. The gold daruma and the daruma doll are hand-carved. In excellent condition except for a tiny chip (1.5mm) on the rim of one of the plates and a very slight hair line on the surface of the other. Diameter:17cm, H:4cm The first half of the 20th century.

Small wooden (kiri, paulownia) drawer coated with red urushi and has beautiful gold makie in front. It also has nice metal fitting for ornament as well as reinforcement. The drawers have green silk lining. In good condition, no distortion except for some stains in gold makie, some chips on the edge and urushi came off in the bottom. Late 19th to mid 20th century. 16.5cm x 17.5cm x 21.5cm
