Yamato kasuri man's kimono made of hand-spun cotton for wefts and machine-spun cotton for warps. Yamato kasuri was woven since mid 18th century in Yamato region (Nara Pref.) Cotton kimono, white or indigo ground, with small kasuri pattern was very popular among students and men in Meiji and Taisho period (mid 19th to early 20th century). The original silver color changed from aging. The lining is made of hand-spun cotton in the upper part and hand-plied hemp in the lower part. It is double kasuri whose wefts and warps are stencil-resist dye which is called "heiyo-kasuri" produced in Isesaki in Gunma Pref. In excellent condition except for a few brown spots in the lining. Cotton Okinawan Bingata furoshiki (wrapping cloth). Bingata is one kind of katazome (stencil-resist-dye) which is a specialty product in Okinawa (Ryukyu for an old name). It has kanji character "Ryukyu" in the corner. Darker colors are added after katazome dye. In good condition but has still some stains. Dyed with Ryukyu ai (ryukyu indigo) and pigments etc. 20th century. 110cm x 110cm
