Pilgrim's cotton sodenashi (vest) with many stamps of holy places where she (woman pilgrim). She took the pilgrimage to "Saikoku-sanjyu-san-kasho" where are 33 temples (holy places) in Osaka-fu, Kyoto-fu, Hyogo, Nara, Wakayama and Gifu prefectures. She completed all the pilgrimage and the vest has all 33 stamps. The date is Showa 3-nen (1928). In excellent condition. 48cm x 72cm

Cotton kimono worn by a Shugen-sha or Yamabushi who practiced Shugendo. Shugendo is the Japanese unique religion combining Buddhism, Shintoism, and worship of nature (mountains). A practioner (shugen-sha) trained himself in the holy mountains that is ascetic and very painstaking. This one is made of cotton and has many stamps of the holy places where he visited. They are: Mt.Gas-an, Mt.Haguro-san, Mt.Yudono-san (Dewa Sanzan in Yamagata prefecture in Tohoku) and so on...

Silk gauze obi (sash) cloth with shibori (tie-dye) pattern. It is vegetable dye with "shikon (root of purple grass)" that had been producd in Aomori and Akita prefecture till Edo period, however it was disappeared in Meiji. It was reproduced in late Taisho period (1920). This sash is for summer kimono. In good condition except for two slits (in the both rim (not from weakness but from original making).
