This is a piece of Narumi-kongata cloth which is hand-spun and natural indigo-dyed. Narumo-kongata cloth imitates the shibori ( tie-dyeing ) which has been made mainly in Arimatsu-Narumi region in Aichi prefecture. The white ground ( jishiro ) piece is less common than indigo blue ground one. The elaborate plural katagami ( paper stencils ) are used for this cloth and has exactly same pattern on both sides which requires prominent craftsmanship. The motifs are sparrow and bamboo. It was a part of kimono, so it has a slit for neck in the middle. The latter half of the 19th century. In excellent condition. 33cm x 147cm
