This is a dochugi, a coat which was worn over kimono when one went out. It is made of cotton cloth handwoven of "moku-shi" which are threads twined with plural color threads together. One is white and the other is indigo dyed. It has wool flannel collar and buttons and cords made of silk threads. It has slits in the left side for a sword. In good condition except for a few stains and rifts in the piping cloth of the slits. The former half of the 19th century. 133cm x 79.5cm
