Han-juban (short under kimono) made of hand-woven pongee silk with stripes called Ki-hachijo. The ground yellow color is dyed with "kariyasu", the wild plant in many times. Ki-hachijo was originally woven in Hachijo Island from 17th century but similar pongee silk was woven in other places later. Probably this one was woven in Hachijo Island. It has natural indigo dyed pongee silk lining and also has thin floss silk inside. In excellent condition except for some light stains near the shoulder and some damages in black silk of the replaceable collar and of the wrists inside. 19th century. 130cm x 82cm
