Carp streamer (koi-nobor) made of cotton with hand-drawn tsutsugaki design which is magoi, black carp. Koi-nobori is flown on the Boy's Festival (or Child's Festival) on May 5th. According to the old Chinese legend, carp became dragons while they swim up waterfalls so that they are the symbol of strength and success. 20th century. In excellent condition except for some small holes (1.5cm x 1.5 cm or smaller) and a few balck stains. 20th century. Sewn by machine. L:3m32cm W:98cm
