Wooden Negoro-nuri tray which was originally made in Kishu (Wakayama and the southern part of Mie Pref.) by Buddhist monks between 13th and 16th century. It was made for their daily use such as trays, plates and bowls. The feature of Negoro-nuri is vermilion urushi, functional and simple design. Also, the more used, the more under-painted black urushi comes out. It has many parts urushi came off and wear, especially in the inside foot . 18th century. 35.5cm x 35.5cm x 7.5cm
