Buddhist hichi-jo kesa, seven-strip Buddhist surplice worn over hoi, clerical garment. It is made of fragments of two kinds of brocade which can be made in Japan as well as in China. The lining is figured weave silk. All natural dye. Generally in good condition but has some wear and rips. 19th century. 2m x 112cm
