Eboshi was a hat which an adult man put on when he wore Japanese formal clothing from the Heian period (Late 8th to Late 12th century) to modern times. It is worn by Shinto priests, or selected people in the ceremonies and festivals. Made of washi (Japanese handmade paper ) and painted with black urushi. The cord is also washi. In excellent condition with original wood box. Early 20th century. 25cm x 15.5cm x 16cm
