Kurume kasuri hanten with double kasuri "MinaMi character"motif which means "south". Kurume is located in Fukuoka prefecture in Kyushu and has been producing cotton kasuri textiles since late Edo period (mid 19th century). They use machine-spun yarn since 1883 and dyed with chemical indigo and machine woven after early 1970s. This one is hand woven but machine-sewn. It might have been worn for a festival. The first half of the 20th century. In excellent condition. 126cm x 103cm
