This is a baby's kimono for a celebration. Fabric is tsumugi which is woven of hand spun and hand woven silk threads. It has an attractive design of a traditional "shobu-gawa", iris pattern which are tie dyed. This is a gorgeous custom ordered kimono. It has "semamori" which is ornamental stitches with red and white treads in the back for a charm against evils as people believe they come from the back. Mortality of babies was higher in old days, so mothers saw semamori wishing for their sound growth. In excellent condition. Taisho or early Showa era ( 1920s~1930s ). 83cm x 102cm 32.7" x 41.2"
