This is a dochu-gi ( coat ) made of kudzu-fu ( gross cloth ) which is hand woven of kudzu fibers for wefts and cotton threads for warps. Kudzu-fu was mostly produced in Kakegawa in Shizuoka prefecture in late Edo. Dochu-gi is a coat for outdoor or travel and kudzu-fu one was worn in summer. This dochugi is black and dyed with Japanese ink. In good condition except for a moth holes in the black wool collar and some in the body part. Late Edo or early Meiji period ( ca. mid to late 19th C ). 126cm x 78cm 49.6" x 30.7"
